REVIEW: Wizard Afternoon Tea at The Cauldron NYC

Looking for another Harry Potter inspired experience to do in New York?
I recently went on a New York Harry Potter trip and this time I added a new immersive experience: Wizard Afternoon Tea at the Cauldron NYC!
The Wizard Afternoon Tea is the perfect experience for witches and wizards of all ages to enjoy some magical brews, sandwiches, and sweets during their visit to New York City.
Here's everything you need to know before you book Wizard Afternoon Tea at The Cauldron NYC.

What is Wizard Afternoon Tea at The Cauldron NYC ?

The Cauldron is an interactive restaurant with something to offer for people of all ages, and dietary accommodations, while also priding itself as an LGBTQ+ friendly safe space.
Wizard Afternoon Tea is an interactive tea brewing experience where you can practice spell casting and enjoy some really yummy eats.
In large part, it’s a self-guided experience where you get try out recipes via a downloaded digital menu. You get to invent your own tea concoctions by using mortars, pestles, and vials with provided ingredients. During the experience you get to borrow a magic wand that interacts with your table set up. Think like Universal Orlando’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter interactive spell locations.

Is it an Official Harry Potter Themed Afternoon Tea?

No. The Cauldron NYC is not affiliated with Warner Brothers, Wizarding World or Harry Potter in any way. The whimsical atmosphere, and brewing your own teas makes you feel like you’re a wizard or witch at Hogwart’s!

What’s Included at Wizard Afternoon Tea at The Cauldron NYC?

  • Magic wand and equipment rental to control your tea stand & open your locked chest, which contains your brewing ingredients
  • Brew 2 interactive teas
  • Curated selection of 2 sandwiches per person, 1 scone, & a few small desserts
  • 1 hour and 45 mins experience

Tea Brewing Experience:

The 1st tea focuses on transfiguration. You each choose 3 flavors you think will compliment each other best. I chose Camomile, hibiscus, & lavender.

The 2nd tea is designed to encourage experimentation for finding the perfect concoction. You get a series of 3 teas which start out a pretty dark blue color. They then change color before your eyes as you add the final ingredients – and wave your magic wand, of course. Brewing the second tea felt the most like being in Professor Snape’s potions class.

Wizard Afternoon Tea Food Experience:

Each person starts by selecting 2 sand-which's of their choice. Here was our menu for reference:
Everything is presented on a gorgeous Dragon Egg tea stand that includes finger sandwiches, scones, and multiple desserts to enjoy during your afternoon tea.
Try more sandwiches by having those at your table order different items. We shared the honey butter avocado, cucumber & cream cheese, smoked salmon, & arugula + hummus.
The scone was warm & flaky. Paired with potted cream it was an 11/10! I also liked the Orange marmalade with my scone. I was actually pleasantly surprised by how yummy the food was, not going to lie. They were very tasty, fresh, and were a generous portion size.
The other small desserts ranged from macarons, cupcakes, tarts and a fancy adult rice krispies treat.
Vegan + Vegetarian options are available! Just note there may be an up charge for these.

Overall Review of Wizard Afternoon Tea at The Cauldron NYC

Adults and kids will enjoy using their wands to pour drinks, and solve simple puzzles to unlock boxes. There’s plenty of wow factor value as you enjoy a wide variety of finger sandwiches, desserts, and scone.
The only thing I would say be prepared for the teas and desserts to be on the sweet side. There is not a lot of savory food options during his experience.
I really appreciated not feeling rushed during Wizard Afternoon Tea.
