Review of Roundup Rodeo BBQ at Disney's Hollywood Studios: Is It Worth It?

Roundup Rodeo BBQ is officially open in Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and I couldn't wait to give it a try!
This is Toy Story Land’s newest table-service restaurant, and it's been a MUCH needed addition not only Toy Story Land, but Disney’s Hollywood Studios as a park.
In this review, I'll share my honest thoughts, videos of the food and dinning area, and whether or not Roundup Rodeo BBQ is worth trying during your next vacation to Walt Disney World Resort.

Overview of Roundup Rodeo BBQ

Roundup Rodeo BBQ is a western-themed restaurant located in between Slinky Dog Dash roller coaster and the large Sheriff Woody Toy Story Land entrance.
Roundup Rodeo has the same family-style menu for both lunch and dinner, priced at $45 for adults and $25 for kids (plus tax and tip). It's open for lunch and dinner with the same menu and pricing.
Roundup Rodeo takes place in Andy's backyard. Andy has brought to life a play area inspired by Woody's Roundup.
The exterior is supposed to resemble a cardboard box with crayon drawings and other cutouts with household items as Andy throws puts together a rodeo arena for his toys.
You become the size of a toy as you're surrounded by the creations Andy has built.

Does Roundup Rodeo BBQ Have Characters Inside?

Sadly, there are no characters in Roundup Rodeo BBQ. Woody, Buzz and Jessie do meet with guests in Toy Story Land, but they do not appear in Roundup Rodeo BBQ.

What to Expect During Your Roundup Rodeo Experience

Be prepared to carve out a good chunk of time for this dinning experience! I cannot stress that enough. It takes forever.
A Cast Member welcomes your party outside, once checked in, and takes you inside the rodeo to start your Toy Story dining experience. Kids and adults can ride a hobby horse (pony on a stick) to the table upon entering!
Bathrooms are on the left. You'll head right to the the main dining area which is split into 2 sides:
  • Trixie side
  • Bo Peep side
Each side contains floor-to-ceiling theming! We were seated right next to Bo and her sheep. FYI this side is much darker and might be a good option if you have a baby in a stroller/carrier.
Each table is set with 3 types of BBQ sauces (spicy, classic, and sweet). The plates look like paper, but they ARE NOT! So cool. Silverware of course. There's no ranch dressing available. You can however ask for ketchup.
For those with kiddos: There's small colored pencils and an double sided activity trivia sheet at the table.
Instead of ordering individually off the menu, you'll be brought a platter of select items to share at the table.
First, the meal begins with the Prospector’s Homemade Cheddar Biscuits, which are served with Sweet Pepper Jelly.. You're also provided with 3 salads. The Cheddar Biscuits tasted great, but they don't beat the hype of Red Lobster's, lol. Close though!
  • Rex’s Romaine and Kale Salad

    • Apples, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, and a green goddess dressing
  • Rootin’ Tootin’ Tomato Salad

    • Cucumbers, pickled red onion, and a white balsamic vinaigrette
  • Wheezy’s Watermelon with fresh-torn mint

    • I love watermelon, so I crushed this one.
    • You can ask for the Mint to be left off
The salad's are a light and healthy way to start the meal. To be honesty these were all very basic in terms of creativity, ingredients and taste. The Tomato Salad was my favorite.
Next up is the main entree – the BBQ platter.
There are plant-based options like Trixie’s Plant-Based Trio. It includes Combat Carloflower, Scrumptious Bratwurst, and Rip Roarin’ Rib Chop. Additionally, you can select the Cedar Plank Saloon Salmon as an alternative.
Select 4 sides for the table from a list that includes The Married Spuds, Veggie Slaw, Mean Old Potato Salad, The Claw! Campfire-roaster Vegetables, Force Field Fried Pickles, Slinky Dog Mac & Cheese, Cowpoke Corn on the Cob., and Buckin’ Baked Beans.
Molly and I chose fried pickles, Mac and cheese, Married Spuds, and the Veggie Slaw.
The Married Spuds were the bomb, particularly the Green Goddess sauce that came on the tots. You can ask for the sauces on the side. The Cheese sauce wasn't bad or amazing. Just average. I could've easily ate 2 bowls of the spuds as a meal in itself with that Green Goddess sauce.
I would say the Married Spuds are pretty similar to something you'd get at Green Eggs and Ham at Universal Orlando.
The main entree platter was a TON of food for just the 2 of us!
  • Buttercup’s Beef Brisket

    • My favorite meat selection
  • BBQ Chicken

    • My chicken was very dry! I had to drown it in BBQ sauce
  • Evil Dr. Smoked Ribs

    • Not a lot of meat.If the ribs could are improved, this could become the best barbecue restaurant at Walt Disney World
  • There’s a Sausage in my Boot

    • Not much flavor
My favorite was the beef brisket Overall, the BBQ platter wasn’t bad. There just wasn't anything great about it.
Dessert time!
The “Chuckwager Desserts” are small but full of flavor. You're able to choose 1 mini pie-in-a-jar per person. Children and adults can select a Cupcake a la Forky.
The options include Bo’s Lemon and Blueberry Cheesecake, Billy’s Chocolate Silk Pie, Goat’s Apple Pie, and Gruff’s Peach Strawberry Pie.
For the mini-pies, we chose Bo’s Lemon and Blueberry Cheesecake and Billy’s Chocolate Silk Pie. I really loved Bo's Lemon and Blueberry Cheesecake! It had that perfect combination of tart, tangy and sweet.
The chocolate pie was really good, just wish it had more graham cracker at the bottom to help break up the sweetness.
The Forky cupcake is Gooey chocolate cake with graham cracker buttercream, and a sugar cookie. The actual Forky cookie was hard and had zero flavor. The actual icing and cupcake tasted great! Yes, this dessert is very small, but since it’s so rich and sweet, it ended up being a great size.
It did however take me forever to figure out how to unwrap the green cupcake wrapper! OOF! I ended up deconstructing it and just pulled the cupcake out.

How Much Does Roundup Rodeo BBQ Cost?

The price for lunch or dinner at Roundup Rodeo BBQ ranges from $35 to $59.99 per adult and roughly $25 per child (ages 3-9).
The price per person includes a standard Coke/fountain drink, the biscuits, 3 salads, the BBQ platter, 4 sides, and 1 small pie-in-a-jar dessert.
It’ll cost extra to enjoy any of the specialty drinks, extra desserts, or grown up alcoholic beverages.

Reach for the Sides—Select 4 for the table:

  • Cowpoke Corn on the Cob - Grilled street corn

  • Campfire-roasted Vegetables (Plant-based)

  • Buckin' Baked Beans (Plant-based)

  • The Married Spuds - Loaded potato barrels

  • Force Field Fried Pickles

  • Slinky Doooooooooog's Mac & Cheese

  • Mean Old Potato Salad - Homestyle red-skinned potatoes

  • Veggie Slaw (Plant-based)

The hardest part of this meal was choosing the sides! We tried the The Married Spuds, Slinky Doooooooooog Mac n Cheese, Veggie Slaw, and the fried pickles.
My favorite side was the fried pickles. Loved the veggie slaw…great crunch! It has a light vinegar-based dressing instead of mayo, which I prefer.

    • The more crumble the better. Without a good amount its just a chocolate pudding

Roundup Rodeo BBQ Theming

“When guests step into Roundup Rodeo BBQ, they become Andy’s honorary toys. Arriving in the dining room, they enter a scene depicting a toy rodeo in full swing and come face-to-face with life-size figures. Jessie and Trixie take the reins in the first dining space, while Bo Peep and her sheep command center stage in the second.  And while some pieces are definitely western-themed, what makes this rodeo special is the broad assortment of toys that have been brought together to create a fun, colorful mashup atmosphere that only a child could create.”
Some of the dinning room table details include benches with Monopoly cards. markers, rules, etc.
There are some cool Easter Eggs like the expiration date on a milk carton that has both the release date for the original Toy Story movie (November 22, 1995).
I loved seeing the large cut outs of t colorful cutouts of characters, such as Woody, Bullseye, Bo Peep and her sheep, Buzz Lightyear, the evil Emporer Zurg, Stinky Pete, Jessie, the Green Aliens, and more.
From floor to ceiling Roundup Rodeo has tons of fun hidden gems. Keep your eyes peeled for some of your favorite Pixar characters.
Some are scattered throughout the restaurant in the form of game pieces, and toys . In total, there’s 14 hidden Mickeys for you to find. Ex: There’s a hidden Mickey on the steerJessie is riding.
The barnyard theming carries into the bathrooms and is a really cute touch.

Overall Experience + Atmosphere

Not too noisy at all. It was actually on the more calm side. I had no issues hearing Molly, and I could easily hold a conversation with her and our server.
Every so often you'll hear adorable announcements from other toys with some interactive elements like, “Be careful, Andy's coming!”

Is Roundup Rodeo BBQ Worth It?

Roundup Rodeo BBQ has a lot of family-friendly appeal and is a great option for dining with kids. The food is very accessible, with the family-style serving allowing kids to eat as much or as little as they want, and there is plenty on offer to try. There is a lot for kids to look at, and the familiar Toy Story music playing in the background completes the experience.
Since this dinning experience is VERY long, some children may struggle to sit at the table for an extended period of time.
I knew there wouldn’t character to meet or interact with, but when the special effects started, I still really found myself hoping and looking around to see if Jessie or Woody would come out. I wish parts of the dinning room like Bo Peep were interactive.
At $45, it’s pricey, but relatively inexpensive compared to other table service locations. You get a lot of food that is well prepared, and you can ask for more during the meal if you want. You for sure will not leave hungry, I guarantee that!

Keep in mind an all-you-are-to-eat dinning option during the summer can be dicey at a theme park. Think about and prepare for a potential post-meal crash, on a hot Florida park day. It is nice knowing you'll be able to try a lot items at one price point, with the ability to order more of what you like.
The quality of the food was above average, but not mind blowing or unforgettable. I wouldn’t recommend eating at Roundup Rodeo BBQ based just on the food quality.

Overall Review of Roundup Rodeo BBQ

Roundup Rodeo BBQ is an awesome addition to Toy Story Land, which has really another indoor dinning location.
Be prepared for a long dining experience, it took us over 2 hours start to finish.
It's a nostalgic dinning location with good ol' air-conditioning. It's full of fun theming and will make you feel like a kid again. (Signing the check with a gigantic pencil, and riding a stick horse).
Overall, it exceeded my expectations. While the decor was exactly as I imagined, the food and ambiance went above and beyond.
I really enjoyed hearing fun announcements from other toys with some interactive elements like, " Be careful, Andy's coming!" Those are just so brief and a small part of the dining experience.
It’s a great option for families with kids. However, because there's no characters at Roundup Rodeo BBQ, it might not be worth booking a reservation if meeting characters one on one is a priority.

If this dinning experience is a must-do for your next trip: Book as early as possible. Roundup Rodeo BBQ will more than likely will be a very popular restaurant.
